Militaria Show in Pomona, CA. Historical Militaria Collectors Show

Well, the West Coast Historical Militaria Collectors Show ended on Saturday afternoon. There will be no more. Bob and Danielle Chatt have called it quits after 25 years of serving the militaria-collecting community. The hosted once-a-month militaria shows at Bellflower and a twice a year larger show that lasted several days. The Company of Military Historians as well as the Southwest Chapter were well represented. We had members that came to California from Arizona, Montana, Northern California, and all-over Southern California. Besides myself, manning the CMH table were Terry Kaplan who had his own table by graciously watched over the CMH table while I visited with other members. Board of Directors member Robert (BOB) Kotchian and his son Ian had a table. Also manning tables were Steve Fowler, Terry and Larry Stewart, Paul Milbury, John Tibbetts of History for Rent, and surprise, surprise: Fellow Hayes Otoupalik! I NEVER saw Hayes at his tables as he was always wandering around buying from other sellers. We also had many members that were wandering the hall: Cisco Lopez, Rob Zucca, Art Frye, Jon Woodland, and others. I feel confident that we were able to set a few hooks and should see the results very soon. I focused on the young people, high school and older. The Southwest Chapter can offer them opportunities that others do not have if they are not near a chapter. Overall, I think the show was very successful. I have added a few photos of the hosts, Bob and Danielle Chatt and our members who had tables.

Kindest Regards,

Miller Award for 2017 Bob Kotchian

US Cavalry from 1914 to 1917

Mexican Border Service 1916 by Bob Kotchian

The 2017 Miller Award display by Robert L Kotchian, focuses on the US Cavalry from 1914 to 1917 while serving along the US/Mexican border and during the Punitive Expedition into Mexico searching for Pancho Villa.  The mannequin display shows the basic field uniform and equipment as worn by the US Cavalry on the Mexican border. The distinctive uniform item in this display is the original Patten 1911 Sweater. During the Punitive Expedition, the uniform sweater was not warm enough given the high elevations in Mexico. The goggles and the bandanna are not regulation but given the weather extremes these two items were purchased by most troopers. During the same period photo postcards not only document the fighting but also detail the uniforms, weapons and equipment used by both the Mexican Revolutionaries and the US troops.  The photos also show new technologies that were tested and used by the US military such as machine guns airplanes, wireless communications and motorized trucks.
